The SMART Driving Technology engineering center has been inaugurated at D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University, marking a new stage in the development of the Luban Workshop project at the university.
Launched in 2023 as a key project of cooperation between Kazakhstan and China in the field of engineering education, the Luban Workshop at the East Kazakhstan Technical University has become a modern educational and innovation platform focused on training specialists for the automotive industry of the future. Today, students from Kazakhstan and other countries study here to master the technologies of electric and hybrid vehicles, smart transport systems, artificial intelligence, and autonomous driving.
The new engineering center is a joint project with China’s Tianjin Professional Institute, expanding students’ access to modern equipment: the latest generation hybrid and electric vehicles, autopilot platforms, and AR/VR simulation systems.
The establishment of the SMART Driving Technology center takes the Luban Workshop project to a new level. It will become not only a platform for training and research, but also the basis for the formation of Kazakhstan’s first certification center for automotive industry specialists, which will strengthen the country’s human resources potential and create conditions for the introduction of advanced technologies into the transport infrastructure.
Named after Lu Ban, the ancient Chinese master craftsman, the Luban Workshop is a China-sponsored vocational education initiative designed to provide technical training in various fields to students and local instructors in partner countries.
