The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan have signed a Statement of Intent to join efforts under the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) initiative, UNDP Uzbekistan reported.

The document was signed by Mr. Anas Fayyad Qarman, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Uzbekistan, and Mr. Umid Abidkhadjaev, Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan.

This partnership marks a significant milestone in Uzbekistan’s transition towards a green and sustainable economy, reinforcing the country’s commitment to climate action and inclusive economic growth. Through PAGE, Uzbekistan will receive technical and policy support to strengthen its green economy framework, including the development of a National Emission Trading System (NETS) and a Monitoring and Evaluation framework for Green Climate Finance. These measures aim to accelerate the implementation of Uzbekistan’s Strategy 2030, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and promote green jobs and innovation.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Qarman emphasized: “This collaboration under PAGE will help Uzbekistan leverage international expertise and financing to advance its green transition, ensuring that economic growth goes hand in hand with environmental sustainability and social inclusion.”

Mr. Abidkhadjaev highlighted the government’s commitment: “Uzbekistan is determined to become a regional leader in green economic reforms. The PAGE initiative will support us in building robust mechanisms for carbon pricing, green finance, and just transition measures.”

The signing of this Statement of Intent reflects Uzbekistan’s proactive approach to global climate commitments under the Paris Agreement and its ambition to integrate green economy principles across all sectors. The initiative will also foster partnerships with international financial institutions, development partners, and the private sector to mobilize resources and scale up innovative solutions.

The Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) is a global initiative that supports countries in achieving sustainable development by transitioning to inclusive green economies. PAGE brings together expertise from five UN agencies and multiple partners to provide integrated policy advice, capacity building, and financing solutions.
