Representatives of six institutions—China Investment Corporation (CIC), Oman Investment Authority (OIA), the Uzbekistan Fund for Reconstruction and Development (UFRD), OYAK of Turkey, Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) and Shenwan Hongyuan Securities Co., Ltd.—held the Central Asia and Caucasus Private Equity Fund Cooperation Intent Signing Ceremony during the Financial Street Forum last week, showcasing progress in establishing the fund, EDB’s press service reported.
The Central Asia and Caucasus Private Equity Fund (CACPEF) is co-sponsored by CIC, OIA, relevant sovereign wealth funds in Central Asia, regional development banks, pension funds and other financial institutions. The fund will invest in quality companies across Central Asia and the Caucasus, combining long-term capital with industry resources to support industrial development in Central Asia.
Representatives of the participating institutions noted that their institutions, as institutional investors, share confidence in Central Asia’s development prospects and the investment opportunities arising from deepening economic and trade cooperation between China and Central Asia. CACPEF will bring together the capital, experience and business networks of institutional investors from China, the Middle East and Central Asia. Drawing on their respective strengths in international investment, local markets and comprehensive financial services, the fund will help companies in the region access its partners’ industry expertise, technology and market resources, expand opportunities for regional investment cooperation and promote sustainable economic development.
“Companies in Central Asia and the Caucasus need long-term capital to expand their businesses and enter new markets. Working with partners from China, Oman, Uzbekistan and Türkiye will enable us to combine international investment capabilities with our knowledge of the region. For EDB, helping to develop the fund is one way to bring additional capital into our member countries’ economies and support the growth of regional companies,” said Daniyar Imangaliyev, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of EDB.
