Yasawi Research Institute to be constructed in Turkistan

A capsule-laying ceremony for the Yasawi Research Institute was recently held at the Khoja Ahmed Yasawi International Kazakh-Turkish University in the Kazakh city of Turkistan.

Turkistan is recognized as the spiritual capital of the Turkic World, playing a symbolic role in fostering common identity, cultural heritage and unity among Turkic nations. The city is home to the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, a 12th-century philosopher, poet and spiritual leader who founded the Sufi school across Central Asia.

Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has ordered to comprehensively study the legacy of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, popularize his spiritual teachings among young people, and transform Turkistan into a spiritual and scientific center for the Turkic world.

According to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the newly established Yasawi Research Institute will become an international scientific and academic center for the study of Turkic civilization, Sufi teachings, and the historical and cultural continuity of the Turkic peoples.

The institute will study Yasawi’s spiritual and philosophical legacy, as well as the Turkic history, literature, culture, and religion. Plans include implementing international scientific projects, conducting archaeographic and textual research, and collecting and digitizing rare manuscripts and historical materials.

The new six-story building, with a total area of over 13,000 square meters, will house the Faculty of Theology, the Center for Linguistics, the Research Institute of Turkic Studies, the Institute of Yasawi Studies, modern applied science laboratories, a museum of valuable manuscripts, an exhibition center, and exhibition spaces for the storage and display of rare manuscripts.

The ceremony was attended by government and public figures and scholars from Kazakhstan and Turkey.

The new building of the Yasawi Research Institute is being constructed with the support of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA).

The project is expected to give new impetus to the development of scientific and cultural cooperation between Kazakhstan and Turkey, as well as the formation of a common intellectual space for the Turkic world.
