Over 5 million people in Kazakhstan have imposed self-ban on loans

More than 5 million citizens in Kazakhstan have voluntarily banned the issuance of loans and microloans in their names using “Stop-Credit,” a service designed to protect against fraudulent loans, Fingramota.kz reports.

“Stop-Credit” is a government service for voluntary waiver of bank loans and microloans. It allows citizens to self-ban new loans in their names.

This service allows for proactive protection against fraudulent loans that can be obtained by fraudsters having access to someone’s personal information (such as a copy of passport).

According to JSC “First Credit Bureau,” 5.1 million Kazakhstanis have already taken advantage of this opportunity by imposing a self-ban on unauthorized loans from banks and microfinance organizations.

As of the end of 2025, more than nine million people in Kazakhstan, or over 80% of the economically active population, had loans. Consumer loans remain the most popular type of loan.

According to Olzhas Ordabayev, Chairman of the Committee for the Development of Human Capital and Social Policy of Business at the Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs, the population of Kazakhstan is heavily indebted, with more than 1.3 million Kazakhstanis having loans from banks and microfinance organizations overdue for over 90 days in 2025.
