Director for Asia and Pacific at the European Commission Directorate General for International Partnerships Mr Peteris Ustubs participated in a Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor Coordination Platform strategic roundtable for the private sector hosted by the Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan in Tashkent on May 22.
Business leaders, international banks and government representatives discussed how to advance public-private collaboration on transport connectivity that can greatly enhance Uzbekistan’s access to European and regional markets. Discussions highlighted investment opportunities in key infrastructure projects including multimodal logistics centres, and warehousing facilities.
The Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor will create a more efficient trade route, reduce dependency on traditional transit paths, and unlock new economic opportunities for Central Asian businesses.
Peteris Ustubs stated: “Uzbekistan occupies a central position on the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor and the government has ambitious plans for expanding transport infrastructure. The coordination of future investments need the involvement of the private sector to succeed and this is why we are here today starting a dialogue with companies of the sector.”
Bekzod Kholmatov, Head of the Centre for Studies of Transport and Logistics Issues at the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan stated: “The Trans-Caspian route opens new opportunities for increased trade and investment cooperation. Today’s workshop is evidence that the EU and Uzbekistan want to work very closely with each other to advance this. We want to make sure that this is not only a government-led effort, but also has the support of the private sector.”
