Chinese company to help establish potato seed production in Kazakhstan

China’s Inner Mongolia Muland Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd. is launching a project to establish a high-tech virus-free potato seed production center in Kazakhstan, according to the Kazakh Ministry of Agriculture.

The project envisions the launch of industrial production of high-quality seed for the domestic market and export to Central Asian countries.

The project was discussed between Kazakh Minister of Agriculture Aidarbek Saparov and representatives of the Chinese company.

Inner Mongolia Muland Agricultural Technology announced its intention to begin the project’s practical implementation as soon as possible, with plans to produce the first batch of potato seed within a year.

The company has its own research and production infrastructure and proven experience implementing similar projects. In Kazakhstan, it will establish a modern laboratory and greenhouse complex based on cutting-edge technologies.

“Developing a domestic, technologically advanced seed production system is a key priority for the agriculture sector. The development of biotechnology and the scaling up of virus-free planting material production will dramatically reduce import dependence, ensure stable yield growth, and elevate domestic plant breeding to a new level of competitiveness,” Saparov noted, pledging comprehensive support for the project.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, in 2025 Kazakhstan harvested 2.8 million tons of potato from 131,000 hectares.
