Uzbekistan to host ‘In the Footsteps of Alexander the Great’ marathon

Uzbekistan will hold an international running marathon titled “In the Footsteps of Alexander the Great” in order to widely promote Uzbekistan’s sports tourism potential on the international stage, enhance the attractiveness of its regions, and increase the flow of both foreign and domestic tourists, the country’s Tourism Committee has announced.

The marathon will begin on April 25 and last 7 days, passing through the Kushrabat district of the Samarkand region, as well as the Nurata and Kanimekh districts of the Navoi region. The total length of the route is 200–250 kilometers.

Participants and guests of the marathon will have the opportunity to explore historical monuments, sacred sites, and unique natural landscapes located along the route.

In addition, the marathon aims to promote tourist routes at the international level, develop eco-tourism, encourage a healthy lifestyle among the population, engage young people in sports, and attract the attention of the international sports and tourism community to Uzbekistan.
