In March last year, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev gave start to the construction of new power plants in Namangan region. On September 16, the first hydropower plant of the Naryn HPP cascade was put into operation.
The development of renewable energy sources is determined as a strategic direction for ensuring sustainability of the national economy. In the past years, over ten solar and wind power stations, as well as hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 450 megawatts have been launched in Kashkadarya, Navoi, Samarkand, and Surkhandarya regions.
The Uzbekhydroenergo joint stock company is currently implementing a project on the construction of a cascade consisting of six HPPs on Naryn river worth over $428 million and with aggregate capacity of 228 megawatts.
The HPP-1 was launched at the first stage. It was built using only domestic materials and equipment.
The HPP-1 can produce 171 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year. It will provide electricity for 430 thousand households and allow saving 290 million cubic meters of gas annually.
To protect the environment and landscape the territory, 6 thousand trees have been planted. It is also planned to plant 7 thousand saplings of fruit trees in the spring.
The Naryn HPP cascade is a strategic project aimed at developing green economy and increasing the welfare of the population. In 2026 the launch of the second and third power plants is planned, with the remaining plants to be commissioned in 2027. Each of them will have a capacity of 38 megawatts.
