A working visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Washington D.C. on February 18 began with a meeting with U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick.
They discussed bilateral trade and economic cooperation, noting that the United States is one of Uzbekistan’s key partners. Bilateral trade has exceeded $1 billion, and around 340 American companies are operating in the Uzbek market.
A three-year, $35 billion Economic Cooperation Program is currently being implemented.
The parties placed particular emphasis on expanding trade relations and strengthening direct business contacts with the regions of Uzbekistan.
Mirziyoyev also met with President and Chairman of the Eximbank John Jovanovic and Chief Executive Officer of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) Ben Black.
Areas of cooperation with the Eximbank were outlined, including the expansion of financing for major industrial and infrastructure projects, as well as support for the supply of high-tech equipment.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Mirziyoyev witnessed the signing of the Agreement on the Establishment of an Investment Platform between Uzbekistan and the United States.
On the same day, Mirziyoyev took part in a ceremony for the signing of Uzbek-U.S. documents on the construction of a network of gas stations, the implementation of sprinkler irrigation technologies, the extraction and supply of critical minerals, the creation of a poultry cluster, the development of the agro-industrial complex, the financial market, and the improvement of the investment climate.
The event was attended by representatives of the U.S. government and financial institutions, including U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, Special Envoy of the President Paolo Zampolli, President and Chairman of EXIM Bank John Jovanovic, Chairperson of the American-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce Carolyn Lamm, as well as executives of leading companies such as Traxys, Valmont Industries, Gulf Oil, Aviagen Broiler Breeding Group, John Deere, BlackRock Financial Markets Advisory, and Oppenheimer.
