Uzbekistan develops car rental system in tourism sector

As part of ongoing efforts to create a more convenient and safer environment for tourists in Uzbekistan, measures are being taken to develop the country’s car rental (Rent-a-Car) services. An open dialogue was held at the Tourism Committee, bringing together representatives of the Ministry of Digital Technologies, the Customs Committee, insurance companies, and car rental service providers.

According to the Tourism Committee, the meeting focused on further developing Rent-a-Car services for tourists, addressing existing challenges in the sector, and improving the quality of services.

Participants discussed a number of initiatives aimed at making transport services more convenient for tourists, including:

– improving the system for recording traffic fines and violations involving rental vehicles;

– expanding digital data exchange between government agencies;

– introducing electronic authorization documents allowing foreign citizens to drive vehicles in Uzbekistan;

– integrating international payment systems into electric vehicle charging infrastructure;

– developing specialized insurance products for car rental companies;

– expanding rental fleets with modern and environmentally friendly vehicles, supported by preferential financing mechanisms;

– establishing dedicated parking areas and service facilities for motorhomes and campers in tourist destinations.

The implementation of these initiatives is expected to allow tourists to travel around the country more freely and safely. At the same time, the expansion of digital services, the introduction of international payment solutions, and the improvement of service quality will help strengthen Uzbekistan’s competitiveness in the global tourism market.

The Tourism Committee says it will continue its efforts to create a modern, convenient, and safe transport environment for tourists, eliminate existing barriers, and further develop the car rental sector in cooperation with the private sector. These measures will contribute to providing higher-quality tourism services for both international and domestic travelers.
