Uzbekistan declares 2026 the ‘Year of Development of the Mahalla and Society’

In his New Year’s greetings to the people of Uzbekistan, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev declared 2026 the “Year of Development of the Mahalla and Society.”

In Uzbekistan, mahalla means a neighborhood or local community and is a key part of civil society.

Mirziyoyev stated that in the new year, “we will improve the infrastructure of thousands of mahallas, giving them the appearance of a New Uzbekistan.”

“All sectors of the economy will be transitioned to a model of technological and innovative growth. We will continue to work to increase the income and purchasing power of the population.

“We will expand support for those in need, our esteemed veterans, dear women, and youth.

“We will continue to take effective measures to improve the environment, develop green energy, and ensure the rational use of water resources.

“In 2026, all our reforms and efforts will be aimed at creating the most favorable living conditions for the population and businesses,” said the President.

According to Mirziyoyev, the past year was a year of great transformations and achievements in the lives of the Uzbek people. Despite the challenging global situation, the country’s gross domestic product exceeded $145 billion for the first time, securing Uzbekistan’s place among the world’s middle-income countries.
