A meeting was held at the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of Uzbekistan between Minister Aziz Abdukhakimov and Haruki Yamasaki, CEO of the Japanese company Le One Co., Ltd.
The meeting discussed bilateral cooperation within the framework of a planned pilot project aimed at introducing innovative environmental technologies.
Le One Co., Ltd. has won a $4 million grant for the period from 2025 to 2030. The grant was awarded by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) of Japan under an international demonstration program aimed at promoting advanced Japanese decarbonization and green energy technologies.
According to the project, Uzbekistan will host a pilot facility for methane production from biogas derived from the processing of biological waste. The initiative is designed to achieve several environmental and economic objectives, promising a future of reduced greenhouse gas emissions, safe waste disposal, biohumus for agricultural use and advanced purification based on Japanese standards.
The project promotes the use of biogas as an alternative energy source, which is expected to reduce environmental impact while creating a new energy-efficient model of waste management. The technology is fully aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and Uzbekistan’s strategy for transitioning to a low-carbon economy.
The parties agreed to prepare and sign a bilateral agreement between Le One Co., Ltd. and the Agency for Waste Management and Development of the Circular Economy under the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of Uzbekistan. This agreement will lay the groundwork for implementing the pilot project and define the mutual commitments of both parties.
