Uzbekistan and Chinese companies review plans for energy projects

On December 5, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with the heads of leading Chinese companies to discuss expanding cooperation and advancing joint projects aimed at introducing modern technologies and engineering solutions in the energy sector.

The growing interest of Chinese companies in implementing projects in Uzbekistan was noted with satisfaction. This year alone, more than $15 billion in direct investment from China is expected to be utilized, and the total portfolio of joint projects amounts to nearly $90 billion.

Special attention was given to the energy sector as a key area of cooperation. With the participation of Chinese partners, more than 30 projects with a total capacity of nearly 10 gigawatts and worth over $9 billion are being implemented.

Plans to expand existing and building new photovoltaic power plants, and create additional storage capacities were discussed with president of China Datang Zhou Yuanlong. The company’s initiatives on workforce training, establishing a scientific laboratory, and introducing renewable energy technologies in the agricultural and livestock sectors were supported.

In the discussion with the leadership of China Energy Engineering Corporation represented by Lu Xu, Mirziyoyev appreciated the joint work on building solar power plants and energy storage systems across the regions of Uzbekistan. The importance of further advancing renewable energy projects and developing high-voltage networks was emphasized.

Meng Qinglin, chairman of the Board of Directors of Sinoma Energy, presented information on the progress of constructing a wind power plant and a plant for localizing the production of blades for wind turbines. In addition, opinions were exchanged on the company’s technological solutions that help reduce industrial emissions in the chemical and construction sectors.

Measures to accelerate the construction of wind power plants in the regions of Uzbekistan were discussed with chairman of Universal Energy Nan Yi.

Issues related to the efficient operation of the commissioned cogeneration plant were reviewed with chairman of the Board of Directors of China General Technology Kang Hubiao. An agreement was reached to expand the company’s investment activities in Uzbekistan.

Mirziyoyev also supported plans outlined by Miao Zechun, general director of Poly Changda Engineering, to build an energy storage system next year, which will become a logical extension of the solar power plant launched on December 5.
