On December 10, the United States celebrated the handover of its 16th shipment of food assistance to Uzbekistan, continuing long-standing cooperation in health and humanitarian support, the U.S. Embassy in Tashkent said.
The latest delivery includes 131 metric tons of vitamin- and mineral-fortified lentil and vegetable mix valued at $448,000 and is set to benefit more than 32,000 individuals. The food will provide 6.6 million nutritious meals and is being distributed by Sog’lom Avlod Uchun to more than 50 health institutions across all regions of Uzbekistan, including tuberculosis and mental health facilities, serving children, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups with low food security.
Since 2010, the U.S. has provided more than 1,800 metric tons of enriched food support to Uzbekistan, valued at more than $5 million, delivering nearly 91 million meals to those most in need across the country.
