The largest number of crimes in Kazakhstan in 2025 was registered in Almaty—22,200. In Astana, the number of registered crimes was 16,000, but the capital was the “leader” in the number of crimes per 10,000 people (101.3), according to a crime rankings prepared by finprom.kz based on data from the Legal Statistics Committee of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
Almaty recorded 95.5 crimes per 10,000 people, followed by the Abay region (74.8), the Pavlodar region (70.1), and the East Kazakhstan region (65.2).
The lowest crime rate was recorded in the Turkestan region (22.5), making it the safest region in the country. The Kyzylorda region (34.6) and the Mangystau region (36.5) also demonstrated relatively low crime rates. The Zhambyl region was in the middle with a rate of 37.5.
In 2025, approximately 124,000 crimes were recorded in Kazakhstan, the lowest figure in the past ten years.
Compared to 2024, the total number of registered crimes last year decreased by 6.6%. However, the number of those who committed crimes increased by 1.2%, or 755 people, to 60,600.
In 2025, the most significant decreases were in thefts (by 23.2%), robberies (by 25.2%), and assaults (by 23.8%). Murders decreased by 13.6% and hooliganism by 9.2%. However, there was an increase in fraud-related crimes by 5.2%.
