The Digital Autumn festival returns to Kazakhstan: French immersive art in Almaty

The Digital Autumn immersive art festival is taking place from November 13th to 20th at the Almaty Creative Hub, bringing together the best examples of digital art and virtual reality from France.

This year’s festival highlight is the premiere of the AR (Augmented Reality) fresco “La Forêt qui fait peur” (The Scary Forest), created under the direction of French artist Elly Oldman.

The fresco combines art, music, and augmented reality technology. Under the guidance of Elly Oldman, young artists, musicians, and programmers from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Uzbekistan have created a large-scale digital work that comes to life before viewers using AR (Augmented Reality) technology.

Throughout the week, screenings of the world’s best VR works will take place, including several winners of the 81st Venice International Film Festival.

The Digital Autumn festival was organized by Almaty Creative Hub and Less Media Group with the support of the French Institute and the French Embassy in Kazakhstan.

Festival guests will also enjoy a rich VR program, including 12 immersive works created by leading French studios. This year’s festival theme is “Immersion.” Immersive media allows the viewer to not just watch but truly experience the story. It’s an experience in which the viewer becomes part of the space, senses the atmosphere, and lives within the story.
