From 30 May to 6 June, the Silk Road Samarkand complex will host the Eighth Assembly of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change has announced.

The Assembly will bring together representatives from the governments of 186 countries, international organizations, the private sector, academia, investors, civil society and environmental activists to discuss practical solutions to key environmental issues. Throughout the week, participants will take part in high-level forums, innovation exhibitions, meetings and presentations of regional environmental initiatives. Key topics on the agenda will include water resources in Central Asia, desertification, biodiversity conservation and green finance. Most importantly, the Assembly will provide a platform for launching new international initiatives focused on environmental sustainability, the development of the green economy and climate change adaptation.

The VIII GEF Assembly will serve not only as an important platform for international dialogue, but also as a reflection of Uzbekistan’s growing role in environmental diplomacy and green reform efforts. The event is expected to strengthen global cooperation, encourage new investment and contribute to building a more sustainable and environmentally resilient future for coming generations.
