At the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) held in Sydney, Australia, it was officially decided that the 2028 edition of the congress will take place in Samarkand. This historic decision marks a new stage in the development of the space industry not only for Uzbekistan but also for the entire Central Asian region.

The delegation of the Ministry of Digital Technologies participated in the congress with an extensive program, presenting Uzbekistan’s achievements in the field of space technologies and outlining future plans. Strategic meetings were also held with European, Asian, and American space agencies, and discussions covered joint projects on the application of digital technologies in space monitoring, agriculture, and environmental management.

The leadership of the International Astronautical Federation highlighted Uzbekistan’s scientific potential, the growing interest of youth in space sciences, and the country’s efforts to develop infrastructure, expressing strong support for Samarkand’s candidacy.

The upcoming congress is expected to serve not only as a major platform for advancing international cooperation in science and technology but also as a significant driver of economic development. The congress held in Sydney generated approximately 42 million Australian dollars (about 27 million US dollars) for the host economy. Hosting the IAC in Samarkand is projected to attract more than 10,000 international participants and deliver substantial benefits to Uzbekistan’s tourism, services, and entrepreneurship sectors.
