Russian-Kyrgyz secondary school under construction in Bishkek

Concrete pouring has begun for the foundation slab of the future building of a joint Russian-Kyrgyz secondary school in Bishkek, constructed under an intergovernmental agreement between Russia and Kyrgyzstan, according to the Russian Embassy in Bishkek.

Russian Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Sergey Vakunov and Kyrgyzstan’s Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Edil Baisalov attended the ceremony on March 25.

The project to construct nine Russian-language schools in Kyrgyzstan has entered the practical implementation phase, and the first schools, including this school in Bishkek, are scheduled for completion in 2027.

Ambassador Vakunov emphasized that the construction of joint schools is a key area of the Russian-Kyrgyz strategic partnership, reflecting the high level of trust and cooperation between the countries. “The implementation of such large-scale projects contributes to the initiative of the presidents of our countries to create a unified educational space for Russia and Kyrgyzstan and strengthen bilateral humanitarian ties between our countries.”

Vakunov noted that both Russian and Kyrgyz teachers trained at leading Russian pedagogical universities will work in the new schools, which will allow for the integration of best educational practices and ensure a high level of teaching.

Vakunov noted the high interest in Russian-language education in Kyrgyzstan. Russian, which has official status in the country, continues to play an important role in the educational system, and Kyrgyzstan’s leadership is paying significant attention to its preservation and development, he said.

Vakunov confirmed Russia’s commitment to further expand the training of Kyrgyz teachers, including within the Russian government’s quota of 700 places in Russian universities allocated for Kyrgyz students in 2026.

The ambassador announced that a Russian university exhibition, “Education in Russia–2026,” will be held in the cities of Bishkek, Kara-Balta, Kant, and Tokmok from April 1-3, with 26 leading universities from across Russia inviting young Kyrgyz people to study in Russia.
