Large fish-producing cluster under construction in Kyrgyzstan

A full-cycle fish cluster specializing in fish farming, processing and export is currently under construction in the Jalal-Abad region in southern Kyrgyzstan. The large-scale investment project is being implemented by a Kyrgyz company, Salih LLC, according to the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry.

The total cost of the project is more than $11.8 million, including over $6.8 million (57.7%) of the company’s own funds and $5 million (42.3%) loaned by state-owned Aiyl Bank.

The new cluster will include:

  • A cage-type fish farm spanning 23 hectares on the Kurpsai Reservoir. By 2030, the farm plans to produce up to 5,000 tons of trout per year
  • A sturgeon farm spanning 8 hectares, to grow 270 tons of sturgeon per year and produce 1 ton of black caviar
  • A fish processing plant with a capacity of up to 5,000 tons per year, equipped with blast freezing lines.

The release of juvenile fish is planned for April of this year. The fish are expected to reach a marketable weight of 5-6 kilograms in approximately eighteen months.

The cluster will also establish an aquaculture training center for farmers.

Fish farming, particularly trout farming, has been rapidly developing in Kyrgyzstan in recent years.

According to the ministry, in 2025 Kyrgyzstan produced 19,508 tons of fish, including 17,132 tons of rainbow trout, 813 tons of carp, and 1,563 tons of other fish species.
