A special screening of “Kurmanjan Datka: Queen of the Mountains,” one of the most significant historical films from Central Asia, will take place in Buenos Aires, Argentina on August 7.
Director Sadyk Sher-Niyaz tells the extraordinary story of Kurmanjan Datka, one of Kyrgyzstan’s most revered historical figures. In the 19th century, her courage, leadership, wisdom, and diplomatic talent played a key role in protecting her people during the Russian Empire’s advance into Kyrgyz lands. To this day, Kurmanjan Datka remains a symbol of resilience, national unity, and female leadership.
The film takes place at the heart of the ancient Silk Road, transporting viewers to a remarkable crossroads of civilizations where East and West exchanged cultures, ideas, and traditions for centuries. This special screening offers Argentine audiences a unique opportunity to explore a little-known chapter of Central Asian history and reflect on universal values such as courage, dignity, cultural heritage, and the role of women in leadership.
Special guest: Francisco Taiana Joe, historian and journalist, will open the evening with an introduction before the film screening.
