Construction of two plants worth a total of $305 million has begun in Kazakhstan’s Zhambyl Region. Zhambyl Region Akim Erbol Karashukeyev participated in a capsule-laying ceremony at the construction site of a solid waste disposal plant and a metallurgical plant, which will be built in the Taraz Industrial Zone, according to Kazakh Invest.
The solid waste disposal plant construction project is being implemented by ForYou Energy LLP. The investment volume is $175 million. The project is part of the investment cooperation between Kazakhstan and South Korea.
According to the company’s CEO, Onerbek Seitkhamzy, the plant will be commissioned in two stages. The first stage is scheduled for launch in the first quarter of 2027, and the second in the third quarter of 2029.
“Effective waste disposal, reducing landfill pressure, and developing a modern waste management system are among the most important tasks today. Investments by our Korean partners in the Zhambyl region will give new impetus to the region’s economic development,” noted the region’s Akim (Governor) Yerbol Karashukeyev.
Once fully operational, the plant will be able to process up to 900 tons of solid municipal waste per day and generate up to 20 MW of electricity.
The second project is being implemented by Taraz Production Plant LLP and the Chinese company Guangdong Wantai Supply Chain Co., Ltd. The investment volume is $130 million.
According to company Director Zhou Qinhui, once fully operational, the plant will produce up to 1 million tons of metal products per year, including hot-rolled steel coils, stainless steel products, welded and galvanized pipes, rebar, and other metal products.
The launch of the first phase of the plant is scheduled for the first quarter of 2028.
