Kazakhstan’s national railway operator, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, has announced the launch of the Women’s Carriage service on an international train route for the first time. Starting October 1, 2026, the service will be available in the daily train operating on the Almaty–Tashkent route.
“The international Almaty–Tashkent route is vital for developing passenger travel between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Given its popularity and growing passenger traffic, the decision was made to launch a ‘Women’s Carriage’ on this line,” said Anuar Akhmetzhanov, Chairman of the Management Board of JSC Passenger Transportation, a subsidiary of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy.
Women-only railcars were introduced in 2021 in order to improve the comfort of women during travel, and demand for this service is increasing.
This service is in high demand on domestic rail routes connecting cities across Kazakhstan. According to Akhmetzhanov, since its introduction in 2021, more than 946,000 female passengers have used the Women’s Carriage service.
With the launch of this service on the Almaty–Tashkent route, the total number of train routes offering women-only cars will increase to 14.
Tickets for such carriages are sold to women only, and they are staffed solely by female conductors.
Boys up to seven years old are permitted to travel in Women’s Carriages when accompanied by an adult.
