Kazakhstan to increase oil export to Germany in 2026

Askhat Khasenov, Chairman of the Management Board of KazMunayGas (KMG), Kazakhstan’s national oil and gas company and Johannes Bremer, General Director of Rosneft Deutschland GmbH have extended the current agreement for Kazakh oil supplies to Germany until the end of 2026.

The new agreement increases monthly oil deliveries from 100,000 to 130,000 tons.

Additional oil will be sourced from Kazakhstan’s Karachaganak field. In 2024, Germany began receiving Kazakh oil from the Kashagan field and in 2025, from the Tengiz field.

According to KMG, in January-September 2025, Kazakhstan supplied approximately 1.5 million tons of oil to the refinery in Schwedt, Germany.

Rosneft Deutschland GmbH is the third largest petroleum processing company in Germany. It is now under German government control, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the introduction of EU sanctions on Russian oil imports.

Germany, in its search for alternatives to Russian crude, has turned to Kazakhstan as a reliable supplier.

Kazakhstan began regular oil deliveries to Germany in 2023, following Germany’s decision to halt imports of Russian oil in early 2023.

Kazakh oil is transported to Germany through the Druzhba oil pipeline in Russia.

The Druzhba pipeline originates in Samara, Russia, and branches into two routes after Bryansk and Mozyr: the northern branch runs through Belarus to Poland and Germany, while the southern route passes through Ukraine to Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic.
