Kazakhstan to export poultry meat to China

On May 21, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Agriculture Aidarbek Saparov and Ms. Sun Meijun, head of China’s General Administration of Customs, signed a Protocol on Inspection, Quarantine and Food Safety Requirements for Import and Export of Poultry Meat between Kazakhstan and China.

The document allows Kazakh poultry meat exports to China.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Kazakhstan has been coordinating veterinary requirements and signing relevant protocols regulating bilateral trade in meat products since 2019. To date, 11 protocols have been signed on various types of livestock products. The list of products permitted for export to China includes 29 types of plant and livestock products. The Register of Exporters to China includes 2,483 Kazakhstani enterprises. The signed Protocol adds another 88 Kazakh producers to the Register.

According to Saparov, Kazakhstan is committed to ensuring high standards of quality and safety of meat products entering the Chinese market.

Sun added that China and Kazakhstan are good neighbors and strategic partners. “Due to coordinated efforts of our departments, trade in agricultural products is demonstrating stable positive dynamics. Today’s meeting is a clear evidence of mutual interest and the desire to deepen cooperation in key areas such as phytosanitary, veterinary control and food safety,” she said.

In recent years, Kazakhstan’s agricultural exports to China have seen a steady growth. In 2024, trade of agricultural products between Kazakhstan and China increased by 10.5% and reached $1.4 billion, including $1.05 billion of Kazakhstan’s exports.

Animal feed, grain, oilseeds, and vegetable oil accounted for the bulk of Kazakh exports to China.

This growth trend has continued this year. In January-March 2025, bilateral trade of agricultural products reached $430.5 million (45% increase), with Kazakh exports totaling $301.9 million (42% increase).
