Kazakhstan increases grain exports to old and new markets

From September 1 to October 19, 2025, Kazakhstan exported 1.6 million tons of grain of this year’s harvest, a 14% increase compared to the same period last year (1.4 million tons), according to the Ministry of Agriculture.

Kazakh grain is exported by rail transport.

The largest growth in export volumes was to countries of Central Asia and the Caucasus. New-harvest grain exports to Uzbekistan increased by 41%, from 568,000 tons to 801,000 tons; to Tajikistan by 3.8%, from 236,000 to 245,000 tons; and to Kyrgyzstan by 2.6 times, from 17,000 to 45,000 tons.

Exports to Azerbaijan grew by 3.4 times, from 11,000 to 38,000 tons; to Afghanistan by 28.6%, from 56,000 to 72,000 tons; and to Turkmenistan by 66.7%, from 3,000 to 5,000 tons.

The Ministry of Transport has reported a growth of grain transportation.

In January-September 2025, grain cargo transportation volume in Kazakhstan amounted to 9.5 million tons, a 40% increase compared to the same period in 2024, including 7.3 million tons of both 2024 and 2025 harvest grain transported for export (+43%).

In January-September 2025, export transportations to Central Asian countries (Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Kyrgyzstan) increased by 34%.

Transportations to Iran via the ports of Aktau and Kuryk have resumed and totaled 0.7 million tons.

Exports to Afghanistan increased by 40% in the nine months and reached 179,000 tons.

Significant growth was also recorded in other export destinations:

• Russia — 4.2-fold increase, to 1.7 million tons

• Azerbaijan — 108-fold increase, to 542,000 tons

• Baltic Sea ports — 14-fold increase, to 606,000 tons

• Baltic ports of Russia — 2.4-fold increase, to 132,000 tons

• Black Sea ports – 1.4 times increase, to 256,000 tons.

This year, Kazakhstan also opened new grain export markets in Africa (Morocco and Algeria), Vietnam, and the European Union. The export growth has proven strong demand for Kazakh grain.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, as of October 20, Kazakhstan had harvested grain crops from 15.7 million hectares or 97.9% of the total grain crop area, and 26.3 million tons of grain had been threshed.
