Kazakhstan establishes export hub in Malaysia

Kazakhstan is launching an export hub in Southeast Asia. The national export development institute QazTrade and the Malaysian company Kaztera have signed a memorandum of cooperation under which Kaztera received the status of the official operator for promoting Made in Kazakhstan products in the ASEAN market. This partnership gives Kazakhstan direct access to one of the fastest-growing consumer regions in the world, with a population of more than 680 million people, according to QazTrade.

The partnership provides for the creation of Kazakhstan’s permanent export hub in Malaysia, including a local team, operational infrastructure, and the opening of a showroom for Kazakhstani goods. This will give domestic producers simpler and faster mechanisms for entering the markets of Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, and other Southeast Asian countries. Under the agreement, the operator will promote non-resource exports, develop the Made in Kazakhstan brand, establish ties with major retail chains, marketplaces, and distributors, as well as attract joint export-oriented investments.

The parties plan to launch several practical tools, including a permanent showroom in Malaysia, direct access to regional retail networks, digitalization of trade processes, as well as the organization of trade missions and business forums. This will accelerate negotiations, increase awareness of Kazakhstani products, and create a sustainable export channel for finished goods — from food and textiles to chemical and construction products.

QazTrade CEO Aitmukhammed Aldazharov highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership: “Southeast Asia is one of the world’s fastest-growing consumer markets. Appointing an official operator and launching a Kazakhstani showroom in Malaysia marks a transition from episodic supplies to Kazakhstan’s long-term presence in the region. We are creating infrastructure that helps domestic companies not only enter the ASEAN market but also secure positions in retail chains, increase exports, and build trust in our national brand.”

Malaysia remains a key gateway to ASEAN markets and an important partner for Kazakhstan. In January–October 2025, bilateral trade turnover exceeded $100 million, while the potential for Kazakhstani processed product supplies is estimated to be much higher.
