A transit container train with Kazakh wheat has arrived in the Chinese port of Lianyungang. This is the first of eight trains loaded with wheat destined for Vietnam and shipped via a multimodal route through China.
According to the Kazakh Ministry of Agriculture, the train consists of 62 containers weighing a total of 1,700 tons. After being loaded onto sea vessels, the wheat will be shipped to the Vietnamese port of Haiphong.
The logistics base in Lianyungang works according to the “one container–one service” principle, whereby grain is transported in one container without reloading from the point of departure to the final destination. Thanks to this technology, the transition from the railway to sea vessel takes just one hour.
In total, about 15,000 tons of Kazakh wheat are to be exported to Vietnam.
Since the beginning of this year, Kazakhstan has shipped for export 196,000 tons of grain. The largest consignments were sent to North Africa, Southeast Asia, and Iran.
According to national railway company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, from September 2024 to May 25, 2025, exports of grain of the new harvest amounted to 8.2 million tons, 58.1% more than in the same period in 2023-2024.
The main export destinations included: Uzbekistan – 2.9 million tons (+30.3%), Tajikistan – 1.1 million tons (+47.7%), Afghanistan – 274,000 tons (+31.7%), Kyrgyzstan – 192,000 tons (1.7 times more), Iran – 951,000 tons (17.3 times more), Azerbaijan – 632,000 tons (126.4 times more).
