On August 18 in Tashkent, a delegation of Kazakhstan headed by Vice Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Zhomart Aliyev met with the leadership of Uzbek state agencies, including the Uzatom Agency and the Directorate for the Construction of Nuclear Power Plants.
According to the Kazakh Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the purpose of the meeting was to develop bilateral cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy, exchange experience in environmental and radiation safety, and train personnel in the nuclear industry.
Director of the Uzatom Agency Azim Akhmedkhadzhayev noted the importance of exchanging experience between the two countries that are simultaneously implementing projects to develop nuclear energy. According to him, the interaction will allow both parties to jointly promote nuclear technologies in energy, medicine, agriculture and water treatment.
Vice Minister Aliyev emphasized Kazakhstan’s interest in studying Uzbekistan’s experience to minimize risks and improve the effectiveness of its own nuclear energy development program.
The parties discussed issues of ensuring radiation and nuclear safety, seismic resistance of nuclear power plant construction sites, as well as the creation of a joint system for monitoring the radiation and environmental situation. Particular attention was paid to training personnel, educational programs and advanced training of specialists.
Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their commitment to deepening partnership and emphasized the importance of joint efforts for the safe and sustainable development of nuclear energy in Central Asia.
