On July 23, the headquarters of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) hosted the first-ever meeting of the Kazakhstan–Morocco Business Council in Casablanca.
The event brought together Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Alibek Kuantyrov, President of CGEM Mehdi Tazi, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Morocco Saulekul Sailaukyzy, and representatives of companies from Kazakhstan and Morocco.
Deputy Minister Kuantyrov recalled the progress achieved over the past five years since the opening of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Morocco. He expressed confidence that the newly established Business Council would become an effective platform for direct dialogue between Kazakh and Moroccan companies, facilitating investment, industrial cooperation, and trade.
The participants discussed promising areas of cooperation in agriculture, industry, logistics, fintech, and investment.
In his remarks, President Tazi described Morocco as a country strategically positioned at the crossroads of Africa, Europe, and the Arab world, emphasizing its role as a gateway to African and European markets, while Kazakhstan provides access to the markets of Central Asia. He identified fertilizers, agriculture, logistics, infrastructure, energy, digital technologies, and artificial intelligence as the sectors with the greatest potential for cooperation, stressing that the establishment of the Business Council is fully aligned with CGEM’s strategy of expanding partnerships with Central Asian markets.
As part of his visit to Morocco, Deputy Minister Kuantyrov held meetings in Rabat with Morocco’s Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour, Delegate Minister for Investment Karim Zidane, and Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture Redouane Arrach.
The parties noted that in 2025, bilateral trade increased by 68%, exceeding USD 461 million, while the positive momentum has further accelerated this year.
The parties confirmed their interest in launching new institutional mechanisms for cooperation, including the establishment of an Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.
They also noted the positive impact of the visa-free regime introduced last year on the growing number of mutual visits by citizens of both countries and expressed confidence that this positive trend would be further reinforced through the development of direct air connectivity and joint tourism initiatives.
