French Alliance in Bishkek is holding the Francophonie Spring in Kyrgyzstan, from 25th March to 12th April 2026. The program includes educational, cultural and entertainment events, dedicated to the diversity and creativity of French language and francophone cultures, according to the Delegation of the European Union to the Kyrgyz Republic. This year’s festival theme is “Women and Francophonie”.
All events are organised jointly with the Embassies of France, Switzerland and the Delegation of the European Union in Kyrgyzstan, the Embassies of Belgium and Romania in Kazakhstan, and nearly 20 Kyrgyz partners.
French is the fifth most spoken language in the world, the fourth most used on Internet, and the third most spoken business language. It is spoken by more than 330 million people on five continents, and is also the language of diplomacy. 88 countries are members of the International Francophonie Organisation, 29 of which have French as an official language.
Festival of Francophone Films
This year for the first time, a Festival of Francophone Films will be organised from 7th to 10th April in Ala-Too Cinema of Bishkek, with free screenings of movies from Switzerland, France, Belgium and Romania. For the opening of the Film Festival, the Swiss film “Bon Shuur Ticino” will be presented on 7th April at 18.00. The film will be shown in its original languages (French, German and Italian) with Kyrgyz, Russian and English subtitles.
The program of Francophonie Spring also includes dance and fashion shows, tastings of Swiss and French wines, competitions of drawing, writing and singing, as well as theatre plays, conferences, and events in universities.
Program in Osh
From 27th to 28th April, events will be organised in Osh for Francophonie spring: piano concert of the French pianist Christine Fonlupt, screening of the Swiss movie “Bon Shuur Ticino”, conferences, etc.
