Films from Kazakhstan awarded at festival in London

At the 7th ECG Film Festival, which ended on May 27 in London, several participants from Kazakhstan were awarded prizes.

Organized by the Eurasian Creative Guild and serving as a cultural bridge between Eurasia and the British audience, the festival was held at the Lumiere Romford cinema and brought together films and authors from 23 countries.

In the short film category, the main prize went to the film “Poncha” by director Kaisha Rakhimova. The jury called the work “visually coherent” and noted its “emotional precision.”

The Audience Award went to the film “Call” by director Asem Kuanyshbaeva. The plot centers on a tragic story about a quarrel, the death of a girl, and an unexpected phone call from her number after her death.

Special jury awards went to the script for “The Duel” (Zhorabek Musabayev) and the film “Rat” (Zhantik Baimukhamedov). The latter film caused a mixed reaction in the audience, representing the story of friendship between a man and a rat.

In parallel with the competitive program in the cinema, from May 22 to 27, an exhibition of Kazakhstani artist Zhazira Zhanabaeva was held as visual support of the festival. At the award ceremony, she received a medal established by Marta Brassart, chairperson of the Eurasian Creative Guild, for “contribution to the development of visual art in Eurasia.”

The participation of Kazakhstan in the ECG Film Festival was a success and showcased the country’s creative potential in the international arena. The victory of Kazakhstani films and the recognition of the artist Zhazira Zhanabaeva once again confirmed that the contemporary art of Kazakhstan is not only competitive, but also forms new cultural trends.
