The participation of Uzbekistan’s national football team in the FIFA World Cup is not only a historic sports achievement but also an effective instrument for promoting the country internationally, showcasing its tourism potential, cultural heritage, and national brand on the global stage, according to the Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan’s appearance on the world stage has generated a sharp increase in global interest in the country, leading to a rise in media coverage, online searches, and attention from potential tourists. According to Google Trends data, during the week surrounding Uzbekistan’s first match against Colombia, the number of searches related to Uzbekistan increased by 450 percent.
Another important indicator is the growth of activity across digital platforms. Over the past week, more than 3.4 million news articles, posters, videos, and other publications related to Uzbekistan and the national team’s historic participation in the World Cup were published in international media, on YouTube, and across social networks.
As a result of the heightened activity in international media and social networks, the number of searches related to the country’s tourism potential and its historical and cultural attractions has also increased significantly.
Reports on Uzbekistan’s participation in the World Cup have been published by leading global media outlets, including The New York Times, BBC, Reuters, ESPN, Fox Sports, Euronews, Al Jazeera, Yahoo Sports, and CBS News, all of which have produced analytical articles and special reports.
Ahead of the FIFA World Cup, an international advertising campaign promoting Uzbekistan’s tourism potential was launched on major travel platforms Expedia and Amadeus.
The campaign is primarily targeted at audiences in Western Europe and North America and aims to attract new visitors to Uzbekistan. Through these platforms, users can pre-book flights, hotel accommodations, and travel packages for trips to the country.
