China’s Hunan Junxin Environmental Protection Co. Ltd. has launched the construction of a solid municipal waste processing plant in Karakol, the main city of Kyrgyzstan’s Issyk-Kul region.
This is Hunan Junxin’s third waste-to-energy project in Kyrgyzstan, following similar projects in Bishkek and Osh.
At the construction launch ceremony in Karakol on October 25, Chairman of the Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers Adylbek Kasymaliyev stated: “We are beginning construction of a facility aimed at developing a green economy. The construction of an eco-technological waste processing and energy producing plant will significantly improve the environmental situation in the country.”
Kasymaliyev expressed confidence that this project will strengthen friendly relations between Kyrgyzstan and China and contribute to the development of the Issyk-Kul region.
During the first phase of the project in the Issyk-Kul region, waste-to-energy plants will also be constructed in the Ak-Suu district and the city of Balykchy, which will be able to process up to 600 tons of waste per day. The total investment in this phase of the project is approximately $140 million.
In subsequent phases, depending on the available waste volumes in the Issyk-Kul and neighboring regions, the investor would build additional processing facilities.
