The Central Asian-German Institute for the Protection of Ecosystems and Biodiversity has officially opened at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in Almaty.
The new institute’s goal is the scientifically based development of initiatives aimed at ensuring ecosystem sustainability and preserving biodiversity in Central Asian countries. The institute will serve as a platform for strengthening environmental cooperation between scientists from Kazakhstan and Germany, jointly implementing research projects and sharing expertise.
The opening of the institute took place as part of the international scientific and practical conference, “Problems and Prospects for Conserving Biodiversity in Central Asia,” on November 6.
Matthias Kiesler, Consul General of Germany in Almaty, emphasized the importance of the new institute: “Climate change is one of the key global challenges today. The new research institute will become an important platform for joint research in the field of biodiversity and natural resource protection. Scientists from Kazakhstan and Germany, as well as researchers from other Central Asian countries, will be involved in the work.”
