Afghanistan-Central Asia trade exceeds $1.2 billion

Afghanistan’s trade with Central Asian countries reached more than $1.27 billion in the first five months of 2026, including around $74 million of Afghanistan’s exports, TOLOnews reported citing the Afghan Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

According to the ministry, dried fruits, fresh fruits, talc stone, vegetables, medicinal plants, and various types of juice are among Afghanistan’s main export items to Central Asian countries.

Abdulsalam Jawad Akhundzada, spokesperson for the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, said: “Exports stood at around $74 million, while imports reached $1.204 billion. Our main export items include fresh fruits, dried fruits, various types of juice, talc stone, potatoes, onions, and medicinal plants.”

This comes as the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment earlier announced that over the past eight months, several memorandums of understanding and 13 contracts worth more than $5 billion had been signed between Afghanistan’s private sector and regional countries, while trade exchanges had also increased.
