In Uzbekistan, industrial enterprises will now be encouraged to take action aimed at reducing their impact on the environment. This is stipulated in the Resolution “On the Procedure for Incentivizing the Efforts of Industrial Enterprises of Categories I and II to Reduce Their Environmental Impact,” according to the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change.
According to the document, at the first stage, an industrial enterprise that installs a background air pollution monitoring station will be granted the following incentives:
– any outstanding debt accrued from compensation payments for environmental damage will be annulled;
– 50 percent of the compensation payments for environmental damage transferred to the national budget will be reimbursed over a two-year period.
At the second stage, if the enterprise that has installed the monitoring station subsequently installs dust-gas treatment equipment and/or local wastewater treatment facilities within the following year, 70 percent of the compensation payments for environmental damage transferred to the national budget will be reimbursed, also over a two-year period.
In accordance with the Resolution, the enterprise must submit a notification to the Committee on Ecology—via the Public Service Centers or the Unified Portal of Interactive Public Services (my.gov.uz)—regarding the installation of the monitoring station, dust-gas treatment equipment, and/or local wastewater treatment facilities. The notification and supporting documents will be reviewed by the Committee within 15 working days from the date of submission. Following the review, the Committee issues a formal conclusion on the enterprise’s eligibility for the incentive measures.
