On December 12, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev participated in an International Forum in Ashgabat dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the proclamation of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality, the International Day of Neutrality, and the declaration of 2025 as the “International Year of Peace and Trust”.
The event, chaired by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, was also attended by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov, and President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon.
In his address, Mirziyoyev noted that for the New Uzbekistan, openness to the world, mutual respect, and a commitment to dialogue are fundamental values. One of such testaments to this is the Samarkand Solidarity Initiative for Common Security and Prosperity, put forward by Uzbekistan, which aims to engage in dialogue all those who strive for peace, harmony, and sustainable development.
Moreover, Uzbekistan intends to define the main priorities of its upcoming chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement as promoting a global movement in support of a culture of peace and non-violence, strengthening trust in relations between states through political dialogue, and fostering a global atmosphere of tolerance, mutual understanding, and solidarity.
During the chairmanship, it’s also planned to declare 2027 the Year of Preventive Diplomacy to support conflict resolution efforts for the benefit of future generations. Within this framework, a program of events will be adopted, including the organization of conferences and forums, as well as exchanges of parliamentary, public, and youth delegations.
The Uzbek President noted the growing relevance of maintaining a universal commitment to the principles of peacefulness and mediation in the current conditions of global tension and declining trust between states. Therefore Uzbekistan supported Turkmenistan’s proposal to declare 2025 the International Year of Peace and Trust, acting as co-sponsor the relevant resolution of the UN General Assembly.
Mirziyoyev also highlighted that the principles of mutual trust, respect, and solidarity form the basis of the policy to transform Central Asia into a region of peace, cooperation, and good-neighborliness.
“The seventh Consultative Meeting of the hHeads of state of the region that took place last month in Tashkent once again demonstrated our readiness to strengthen solidarity, take joint action to ensure peace and stability in the region, and expand multifaceted economic cooperation,” stated Mirziyoyev.
