Uzbekistan behind neighboring countries in terms of wage growth

In recent months, the growth of real wages in Uzbekistan has been lower than in neighboring countries in the region, UPL.UZ reported with reference to the Central Bank of Uzbekistan.

In the first three months of this year, the average growth of real wages in Central Asian countries reached 9.8%. At the same time, in Uzbekistan this figure was only 7.2%. The Central Bank warns that if this lag continues, it will lead to a decrease in the purchasing power of the population and, as a result, to a weakening of domestic demand for goods and services.

In addition, Uzbekistan was among the countries with one of the lowest minimum wages in the region. In the first quarter of 2025, the minimum wage in the country was only $91. For comparison, in Belarus this figure reached $243, in Azerbaijan – $235, and in Mongolia – $222.

Also, the ratio of the minimum annual wage to GDP per capita in Uzbekistan was 35%, one of the lowest compared to other countries in the region. For comparison, in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan this figure is 14%, and in Georgia – 12%.
