U.S. Embassy brings American history to Turkmenistan

This year, the United States marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Embassy in Turkmenistan is bringing that history to life.  In celebration of this milestone, the U.S. Embassy organized a series of Founders Museum exhibitions and related programs across Turkmenistan.  Across all five regions of Turkmenistan, the exhibitions invited Turkmen communities to explore the ideas, individuals, and enduring legacy of America’s founding.

U.S. Ambassador Elizabeth Rood, who attended opening ceremonies alongside Deputy Chief of Mission Andrew Berdy, captured the spirit of the occasion: “Two and a half centuries ago, our nation’s founders set forth a vision rooted in liberty, equality, and self-determination.  The Declaration of Independence did not just mark the birth of a new country; it was a bold statement of principles that have inspired generations worldwide.”

Mobile exhibitions traveled to American Corners in Mary, Dashoguz, and Turkmenabat, as well as to the city of Turkmenbashy, bringing the story of America’s founding directly to regional communities.  Government representatives attended opening ceremonies at each location, underscoring the strong educational and cultural partnership between Turkmenistan and the United States.

The Founders Museum exhibition is now open to visitors at the American Center in Ashgabat, giving an opportunity to explore the documents, ideas, and remarkable individuals who shaped not only a nation, but the course of history.
