Turkish company to build two hydropower plant cascades in Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan and Central Asian Investment Holding, a subsidiary of Turkey’s İhlas Holding, have signed investment agreements on the construction of the Kazarman and Kokomeren hydroelectric power plant (HPP) cascades in Kyrgyzstan with a total capacity of 2,217 MW.

The documents were signed on August 11 by Kyrgyz Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibrayev and Ahmet Mücahid Ören, Chairman of the Board of Directors of İhlas Holding.

The Kazarman cascade is located on the Naryn River and includes four hydroelectric power plants. Central Asian Investment Holding has committed to constructing three of them, with a total capacity of 912 MW:

Ala-Buga HPP – 600 MW

Kara-Bulun-1 HPP – 149 MW

Kara-Bulun-2 HPP – 163 MW.

The cascade on the Kokomeren River includes three hydro plants with a total capacity of 1,305 MW:

Karakol HPP – 33 MW

Kokomeren-1 HPP – 360 MW

Kokomeren-2 HPP – 912 MW.

According to Türkiye Gazetesi, the signed agreements provide for the Turkish company’s right to operate the constructed power plants for 20 years and guarantee the purchase of generated electricity by Kyrgyzstan.
