The Central Bank of Uzbekistan and the Asian Development Bank presented the results of a joint study of the financial situation of the population. The survey reflects the subjective perception of economic stress and the coping strategies of citizens, Tashkent Today reported.
Key findings of the study:
• 44% of respondents stated that their income is insufficient to cover expenses. The most vulnerable group is people aged 31–45 (48%).
• 36% of respondents are cutting expenses, 13% are selling assets, 11% are delaying debt payments, and only 9% are using savings.
• Despite the difficulties, 72% of respondents would be able to support themselves for at least a month after a loss of income, and 36% of them would be able to support themselves for two months or more. Only 15% can endure less than two weeks without income.
• 73% of the population lives “for today.” The highest level of this mindset is among those with vocational education (82%) and the unemployed (78%). • Financial cushion: In difficult circumstances, 37% would rely on help from loved ones and relatives, and only 25% on their savings.
