Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and Russian President Vladimir Putin, who arrived in Tajikistan on a state visit, held negotiations in Dushanbe on October 9.
At the start of the talks, Rahmon noted that Russia is one of Tajikistan’s main political and economic partners, adding that “we cooperate closely in trade, economic, cultural, humanitarian, and security areas.”
The talks covered a wide range of issues—from energy, various industrial sectors, investment, transport, agriculture, and the digital economy to science, education, security, and defense.
The sides supported continuing political dialogue at various levels and noted the steady growth of bilateral trade.
Agreements were reached on developing cooperation, including further increasing trade and investment volumes, implementing joint projects, establishing manufacturing facilities, opening an industrial park, processing agricultural products, extracting and processing minerals, collaborating in digitalization and artificial intelligence, strengthening cooperation in cultural and humanitarian areas, including education and healthcare, youth policy, sports and tourism, and training young professionals.
Documents on labor migration were signed, strengthening the legal basis for further cooperation in this area.
Rahmon expressed gratitude to Putin for increasing quotas for Tajik students in Russia, building five Russian schools and a center for gifted children in Tajikistan, assisting in training Russian language teachers, providing educational literature, and constructing the Mayakovsky Russian Drama Theater in Dushanbe.
