New multimodal route established from China to Azerbaijan along Middle Corridor via Kazakhstan

KTZ Express, a subsidiary of Kazakhstan’s national railway operator, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), has established a new multimodal transportation route with the first container train from Shanxi Province (China) to Azerbaijan along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) through Kazakhstan.

According to KTZ, the train, consisting of 50 containers with photovoltaic modules weighing more than 1,150 tons, departed from the city of Jinzhong, traveled through Kazakhstan, and arrived at the port of Aktau, from where the cargo was transported by sea to Azerbaijan.

The TITR, also known as the Middle Corridor, links China and Europe through Central Asia, bypassing Russian territory.

In 2024, cargo volume along the TITR increased by 60%, reaching 4.5 million tons. Plans are in place to double that figure to 10 million tons by 2030.

The launch of this new multimodal route from northern China along the Middle Corridor demonstrates the growing importance of the TITR and strengthens Kazakhstan’s position as a key transit link in Eurasian logistics.

KTZ continues to develop multimodal solutions, ensuring reliable and fast delivery of cargo from China to the Caucasus, Turkey, and Europe.
