Marriages decline and divorces rise in Uzbekistan

The statistics agency and the Supreme Court have released the 2025 figures reflecting trends in family relationships in Uzbekistan. The number of marriages has declined for the fourth consecutive year, while divorce cases have become one of the most common categories of court cases, Tashkent Today reported.

Key indicators:

• Age at marriage: The average age remains stable at 25.6 years for men and 21.4 years for women.

• Decline in marriages: 267,100 marriages were registered in 2025 (4,700 fewer than in 2024). The downward trend has continued since 2021.

• Increase in divorces: 46,900 cases were recorded (an increase of 1,800). Sixty percent of divorces occur in urban areas.

• Court statistics: Courts heard over 70,500 divorce cases. Only 53% of the cases (37,500) resulted in a divorce; in the remaining cases, divorces were denied.

Divorce cases were second in number among all civil cases, only behind credit and financial litigation.
