Kyrgyzstan’s foreign trade declines, imports exceed exports

According to the latest figures published by the National Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan, the country’s foreign trade continued to decline, with a decrease in both exports and imports.

In January-July 2025, Kyrgyzstan’s foreign trade totaled $8.7 billion, 6.4% down compared to the same period in 2024. Exports decreased by 13.3%, amounting to $1.5 billion, and imports fell by 4.8%, totaling $7.2 billion.

Kyrgyzstan remains an import-dependent country, with imports accounting for 82.8% of its total foreign trade turnover.

The decline in total imports during this period was due to the decreasing import of motor vehicles, household appliances, equipment, pharmaceuticals, and light industry products (clothing).

Kyrgyzstan’s trade with other member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU)—Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia—increased by 3.2% to $2.9 billion in January–July 2025. Exports to the EAEU countries decreased by 23.1%, while imports increased by 12.5%. Russia (65.6%) and Kazakhstan (32.2%) were Kyrgyzstan’s largest trading partners within the EAEU. Trade with the EAEU member states accounted for 33.6% of Kyrgyzstan’s total foreign trade turnover, including 38% of the total exports and 32.7% of all imports.

Kyrgyzstan’s trade with non-EAEU countries decreased by 10.6% down to $5.7 billion in January–July 2025, accounting for 66.4% of the total foreign trade turnover, with 62% of all exports and 67.3% of all imports.

China remains Kyrgyzstan’s largest trading partner outside the EAEU.
