According to the latest figures published by the National Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan, the country’s foreign trade continues to decline, with a decrease in both exports and imports.
In January-September 2025, Kyrgyzstan’s foreign trade totaled $11.3 billion, an 8.3% decrease compared to the same period in 2024.
Exports decreased by 25.7% and amounted to $2.1 billion.
Imports decreased by 3%, amounting to $9.1 billion.
Kyrgyzstan remains an import-dependent country, with imports accounting for 81.1% of its total foreign trade turnover.
During 2025, the Cabinet of Ministers imposed bans on the export of various goods from Kyrgyzstan, particularly scrap metal and livestock. Bans were also imposed on the import of certain products. In particular, to support local egg producers, the government has banned egg imports amid rising domestic production. All this naturally impacted the volume of foreign trade, especially exports.
According to the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, the decline in exports in January-September 2025 was due to a decrease in the export of livestock by 8.2 times, footwear by 4.3 times, copper scrap by 2.8 times, ferrous metals by 1.6 times, gold by 27.9%, textile apparel by 26.2%, equipment and mechanical devices by 21.3%, and vegetables by 15.2%.
A slight decrease in imports was due to a reduction in the import of automobiles and equipment.
At the same time, Kyrgyzstan significantly increased the import of vegetables, ferrous metals, footwear, wood, electrical machinery and equipment, mineral and carbonated water, tobacco products, plastics and plastic products, natural and liquefied gas, and food products.
In January-September 2025, Kyrgyzstan saw decreased trade with its main trading partners.
Kyrgyzstan’s trade with fellow member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU)—Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Russia—decreased by 5,3% and totaled $3.845 billion. Exports to the EAEU countries decreased by 39.2%, while imports increased by 11.8%. Russia (65.8%) and Kazakhstan (31.8%) were Kyrgyzstan’s largest trading partners within the EAEU.
Kyrgyzstan’s trade with non-EAEU countries decreased by 9.8% and totaled $7.4 billion in January-September 2025. China remains Kyrgyzstan’s largest trading partner outside the EAEU.
