The Government of Kyrgyzstan has extended the temporary ban on the export of livestock from the country. The extension is for six months and applies to live cattle, horses, sheep, and goats.
The move is intended to ensure the country’s food security and stabilize meat prices on the domestic market.
The ban does not apply to the following cases:
- livestock transit through the territory of Kyrgyzstan
- export of sport horses for competitions
- donation of horses to foreign states, international organizations, or individuals
- export of livestock by the state-owned operator Kyrgyz Agroholding (except for livestock raised in Kyrgyzstan)
- export of horses by air.
Kyrgyzstan initially banned livestock exports in 2025 in a bid to curb sharply rising meat prices on the domestic market.
