Kazakhstan ranked as low as 77th out of 89 countries in U.S. News & World Report’s 2024 Best Countries for a Comfortable Retirement rankings, Energyprom.kz reports.
The rankings are drawn from an international survey of nearly 17,000 people and highlight countries according to the perceptions of a subset of about 5,900 respondents in their mid-40s and older. The list is based on those respondents’ association of various countries with seven specific attributes: affordable, favorable tax environment, friendly, is a place I would live, pleasant climate, respects property rights, and has a well-developed public health system.
Other post-Soviet countries ranked even lower: Azerbaijan ranked 81st, Uzbekistan 84th, Ukraine 85th, Belarus 87th, and Russia, second to last, 89th. Iran came in last place, while the top ten was made up of developed European countries, as well as New Zealand, Australia, and Canada.
Countries ranked higher than Kazakhstan included Ghana in 75th place, Honduras in 63rd, China in 61st, Japan in 34th, and Turkey in 33rd.
